Mets Exploring Trades Before Signing Closer
The New York Times reports that the Mets will explore a trade for a free agent closer before beginning serious discussions with free agents Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes, whose asking price was deemed a bit high by GM Omar Minaya. The Mets have had discussions, according to the article, with Jose Valverde, JJ Putz, Huston Street and Bobby Jenks. They're also considering signing Kerry Wood or Trevor Hoffman.
